Notes

  • Skill level: Beginner
  • Finished size: Length - 24cm / 9.5 inches; Height - 12.5cm / 5 inches

Materials and Equipment

  • Yarn: Fine Sport #2 (55% cotton, 45% acrylic). Colors: green, yellow, purple, orange, and pink (YarnArt Jeans recommended).
  • Crochet hook: 2.5mm or B/1
  • Polyester fiberfill for stuffing
  • Thin black yarn for eyelash embroidery
  • Medium-sized button
  • 8mm wide ribbon
  • Other: yarn needle, scissors, pins with large heads, stitch marker or thin yarn, 8mm safety eyes (note: use embroidery for children under 3 due to choking hazard)

Abbreviations Used (US Crochet Terms)

  • MR: Magic ring
  • ST: Stitch
  • SC: Single crochet
  • HDC: Half double crochet
  • DC: Double crochet
  • CH: Chain
  • SL: Slip stitch
  • INC: Increase (two SC in the same stitch)
  • L INC: Large increase (three SC in the same stitch)
  • INV DEC: Invisible decrease
  • BLO: Back loops only
  • FO: Fasten off
  • (……) x #: Repeat the pattern inside the brackets # times
  • {...}: Number of stitches at the end of a round

Pattern Instructions

Body (Make 5)

  1. R1: MR, 6 SC {6}
  2. R2: INC in each ST {12}
  3. R3: (SC, INC) x6 {18}
  4. R4-15: Follow instructions for rounds, including increases and straightforward SC rounds, to form the body segments.
  5. Closing: Use the yarn needle to close the hole at the last round.

Legs (10 in total, 2 for each body segment)

  1. R1: MR, 6 SC {6}
  2. R2-7: Includes rounds with increases and SC only. Stuff well before closing.

Antennae (Make 2)

  1. R1-R8: Start with MR and progress with SC and decreases to shape the antennae.

Head

  1. R1: MR, 6 SC {6}
  2. R2-21: Follow the pattern steps including increases and straightforward SC rounds for the head formation. Insert safety eyes between R11 and R12.
