Making The Crochet Doily Coaster
Materials Needed:
- Size 3 light worsted weight or DK cotton yarn
- 3.5-millimetre crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Step by step Pattern
Round 1:
- Start with a slipknot, then chain 4.
- Join with a slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring.
- Chain 2 (this will not count as a stitch).
- Make 20 double crochets into the center of the ring, working over the yarn tail.
- Once you have completed 20 double crochets, join with a slip stitch into the top of the first double crochet.
Round 2:
- Chain 2 (this will count as one half-double crochet).
- Make one half-double crochet into the next stitch.
- Chain 1.
- Repeat the following around: one half double crochet into the next stitch and then chain 1.
- After the last half double crochet and chain one, join with a slip stitch into the top of the beginning chain 2.
Round 3:
- Slip stitch into the first chain one space to move your hook into the space you'll be working into.
- Chain 2 (this will count as one double crochet).
- Make one double crochet back into the same space, then chain one.
- Put two more double crochets into the same space.
- Skip the next chain one space.
- In the next chain one space, make two double crochets, chain one, and two more double crochets.
- Repeat the pattern around: skip a space, then in the next space, two double crochets, chain one, two double crochets.
- At the end of the round, you should have ten groups of four double crochets with a chain one space in the middle of each group.
- Join with a slip stitch into the top of the beginning chain 2.
Round 4:
- Make one double crochet into the first chain one space, then chain one.
- Repeat this three more times into the same space (double crochet, chain one).
- After the fourth time, you should have four double crochet separated by a chain one space and then put in one more double crochet.
- Instead of a chain, do a slip stitch into the triangle space between the two loops or double crochets.
- This completes the first shell.
- In the next chain one space, repeat the pattern: one double crochet, chain one (four times), and then make the fifth double crochet.
- Complete the slip stitch into the triangle space between the two groups of four double crochets.
- Continue this pattern all the way around.
- After completing the 10th shell, finish with a slip stitch into the triangle space right next to the first shell.
- Chain one, cut the yarn, and weave in the ends with the yarn needle.
Your doily coaster should measure approximately 11 centimetres across. Always ensure to finish each round properly and join the slip stitches cleanly for the best final look. Enjoy your handmade coaster!
