Making Your Crochet Napkin Ring

Materials Needed:

  • Cotton yarn (medium weight recommended for durability and ease of washing)
  • Crochet hook suitable for your yarn (for medium weight, a 5.0 mm hook is commonly used)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
slst = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet (optional for texture)

Step by step Pattern

Foundation Chain: Start by making a slip knot. Chain 14 (adjust the number of chains based on the yarn weight and desired ring size; this should wrap around your napkin comfortably).

Form the Ring: Slip stitch (slst) into the first chain to form a ring. Ensure not to twist the chain.

Round 1: Chain 1 (this does not count as a stitch). Work 24 single crochets (sc) around the chain loop. Join with a slst to the first sc. (Adjust the number of sc based on your foundation chain to ensure the ring is fully covered but not too tight.)

Round 2 (Optional for a Thicker Ring): If you prefer a thicker ring, you can repeat Round 1 for additional rounds until you achieve the desired width.

Decorative Edge (Optional): For a decorative edge, you can switch to a half double crochet (hdc) or add a shell edging in the final round by [skip 1 stitch, 5 hdc in next stitch, skip 1 stitch, slst in next stitch] repeat around.

Finishing: To finish, cut the yarn, leaving a tail long enough to weave in. Pull this tail through the last loop on your hook and weave in the ends securely with a yarn needle.

Customization Tip: Personalize your napkin rings by attaching a decorative button, a small crochet flower, or any other embellishment to the finished ring.
