With just a bit of yarn either the scraps and a crochet hook, you can bring smiles to faces with the adorable worry worm pattern. Designed for quick crafting, these little crochet ornaments are popping into hearts through random acts of crochet kindness. Start with a simple chain, add a twirl of stitches, and finish with a cute wormy head, complete with googly eyes for extra charm. They’re not just craft projects; they’re tiny messengers of joy.

Making The Crochet Worry Worm

Materials:

  • Chosen Yarn
  • Corresponding Hook Size
  • Self-adhesive Googly Eyes (optional for decorating)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle

Step by step Pattern

  1. Start with a Slip Knot: With your chosen yarn, create a slip knot on your hook.
  2. Chain 30: Chain 30 stitches to begin.
  3. Beginning of Body:
    • Skip the very first chain from the hook (the loop on your hook does not count as anything).
    • Make a slip stitch into the second chain from the hook.
  4. First Segment:
    • In the next chain, work four single crochet stitches all into the same chain (1, 2, 3, 4).
  5. Second Segment:
    • Repeat Step 4 in the next chain: Work four single crochet stitches into the same space (1, 2, 3, 4).
  6. Body Continuation:
    1. You will notice your work has already started to curl; this is normal and desired.
    2. Continue by making 4 single crochet stitches into each remaining chain except for the very last chain. This forms the curly body of the worm.

  1. End of Body:
    • Once you have finished the last set of four single crochet stitches, you should be at the second-to-last chain with one chain remaining.
  2. Head of the Worm:
    • In the very last chain, work 10 double crochet stitches all into this same chain to form the head.
  3. Closing the Head:
    • After completing the 10 double crochet stitches, perform a slip stitch into the same last chain to finish off the head. The slip stitch may stretch the hole slightly, which creates a "worried" looking mouth effect.
  4. Finishing the Worm:
    • Chain 1, then cut your yarn, leaving an end long enough to weave in.
    • Pull through the loop and pull tight to secure.
    • Weave in both ends with a yarn needle and snip off the excess tails.
  5. Adding the Eyes:
    • Attach self-adhesive googly eyes to the worm's head, or create eyes using your preferred method such as embroidery, felt circles, or French knots.

Your adorable little Crochet Worry Worm is now complete! You can participate in Random Acts of Crochet Kindness by leaving these worry worms for others to find, adding a little note or simply gifting them to someone in need of a smile.
