How To Make A Cute Little Elephant

Starting with the Elephant's Head and Body:

  1. Magic Ring: Start by making a magic ring.
  2. Round 1: Chain 1 (not counted as a stitch), then do 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring. Pull the ring closed.
  3. Round 2: Increase (inc) in every stitch around (12 stitches).
  4. Round 3: 1 sc, 1 inc repeat around (18 stitches).
  5. Round 4: 1 sc in the next 2 stitches, 1 inc repeat around (24 stitches).
  6. Round 5: 1 sc in the next 3 stitches, 1 inc repeat around (30 stitches).
  7. Rounds 6-11: 1 sc in each stitch around (30 stitches in each round).
  8. Round 12 (Start Decreasing for the Head): 1 sc in the next 3 stitches, then decrease (dec) repeat around.
  9. Continue decreasing rounds while fitting the stuffing until the head shape is formed.
  10. Body: Start increasing again for the body immediately after finishing the head. Increase in each stitch for a few rounds, then continue with 1 sc in each stitch for several rounds until the desired length of the body is reached.

Trunk:

  1. Magic Ring: Make a magic ring with 6 sc.
  2. Round 1: Work in back loops only, 1 sc in each stitch around (6 stitches).
  3. Rounds 2-8: Continue with 1 sc in each stitch around. After round 8, slightly adjust the trunk's length as desired by adding or reducing rounds.
  4. Insert a pipe cleaner for adjustable shaping. Sew onto the face between rounds 8 and 10

Ears (Make 2):

  1. Follow the pattern for the body from rounds 1 to 5 to create the initial shape of the ears.
  2. Pin and sew the ears to the head on rounds 2 to 3.

Arms (Make 2) and Legs (Make 2):

Arms:

    1. Magic Ring: Start with 6 sc in a magic ring.
    2. Round 1: Inc in each stitch around (12 stitches).
    3. Rounds 2-3: 1 sc in each stitch around (12 stitches). After round 3, adjust for shaping by decreasing as needed, then continue with 1 sc in each stitch for a few rounds. Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Legs: Use a similar approach to the arms but adjust the initial increases and subsequent rounds to create a slightly larger and more tapered shape appropriate for the legs.

Eyes:

  • You can either attach safety eyes or embroider the eyes with black yarn. To embroider, determine the desired position on the face, ensure symmetry, and sew over three stitches to create each eye. For a smiling effect, add a small upward stitch at the ends.

Assembly:

  • Sew the arms and legs to the body, positioning them to support the elephant in a sitting position. Ensure they're securely attached.
  • Attach the ears and trunk to the face, using the video's guidelines to position them correctly.
  • Optionally, embroider a small tail at the back.
